Burdett Women’s Initiative is a community led programme supporting women in the Burdett Estate and wider Tower Hamlets area to grow in confidence, skills, and wellbeing. Rooted in the heart of the community, we create safe, welcoming spaces where women many from Bangladeshi and other ethnic minority backgrounds can connect, learn, and thrive.

Through workshops, support groups, wellbeing sessions, and community events, we empower women to overcome barriers, access opportunities, and take an active role in shaping their lives and their communities. Whether it’s through education, employment support, or simply finding a place to belong, the initiative is all about helping women build brighter, more independent futures together.

Burdett Women’s Initiative was launched in 2022 as part of the Burdett Foundation’s commitment to supporting and empowering local women in the Burdett Estate and wider Tower Hamlets community. Over the past three years, the initiative has created a safe, welcoming space where women can come together to build confidence, share experiences, and access meaningful support.

We run regular workshops, wellbeing activities, peer support groups, and educational sessions focused on mental health, employment, parenting, and self-development.
Led by local women, for local women, the initiative continues to grow as a vital part of the community helping women to overcome isolation, gain independence, and take active roles in shaping their futures.

Our Coffee Morning sessions are relaxed, welcoming meet-ups where local women can come together, connect, and support one another in a safe and friendly space. Held regularly at the Burdett Centre, these sessions offer a chance to chat, share experiences, and take part in informal activities and discussions around wellbeing, parenting, education, and everyday life.

Our Health and Wellbeing projects support the community through hands-on activities like budget-friendly cooking workshops, therapeutic gardening, and wellbeing sessions on topics such as self-care and mental health. These sessions offer a safe, supportive space to learn new skills, build healthy habits, and connect with others.

Our fitness sessions promote an active, healthy lifestyle through fun and accessible activities for all levels. We run walking groups, community sports days, and group fitness sessions that encourage people to stay active, boost their wellbeing, and connect with others in a friendly, supportive environment.

Our Women’s Leadership Project empowers local women to take the lead in their communities by developing their confidence, skills, and voice. Through mentoring, training, and hands-on experience, we support women to design and lead their own community projects helping them become role models and changemakers within Burdett and beyond.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
